Everybody worries sometimes.

Right now, you’ve probably even got a few things on your mind. You might be thinking about a relationship, or a situation at work that’s causing you trouble. Perhaps you’re worried about your health, or whether or not you’re going to have enough money to pay the bills at the end of the month.

Whatever the case, worry is a fact of life for many of us. And when worry starts to take over your reality, it can be quite debilitating.  Read on for 5 solid strategies for putting down worry for good and achieve freedom from worrying.

Be Here, Now & Achieve Freedom From Worrying

Worry has a way of tricking you into living anywhere but in the here & now.

Whether you’re ruminating about something which happened long ago, or you’re caught up in fretting about something still to come, neither is ever helpful.

The secret to stop worrying requires you to focus on the present.

What is happening right now?  Right in front of you?  Concentrate on what you’re dealing with in this moment, and let the rest fall away.  You cannot change the past or the future by worrying about them.

Realize that Worrying Freezes Forward Momentum

Worrying stops you cold. It’s a distraction, and it leads to procrastination.

You must realize that worrying is a waste of time & energy.  It is exhausting, and prevents you from getting your important work, tasks, and errands done.  Sometimes just recognizing how pointless worry is will be enough to derail it altogether.

Avoid worrying about how you’re going to get things done, and go out and do them instead.

Throw Yourself into Something Engrossing & Achieve Freedom From Worrying

Worry needs your attention to survive.

Get busy doing something engaging, and you’ll find that you forget all about worrying.  Start that project you’ve been putting off.  Do a puzzle.  Play a game with your kids.

Check The Facts

Challenge every worry.

When you catch yourself worrying, dig in and discover if the things that you’re worrying about are actually valid.

Many times, we worry about things that we cannot control.  No amount of worrying will give us the power to change what people think of us, or the outcome of any given situation.  The real problems in life are often things that had never even crossed your worried mind.

Worrying ahead of time does not improve your performance or change your results.  On the contrary, worrying leads to mistakes and blunders.  Quit the worrying, and you’ll lose the anxiety, too.

Notice Worries, and Let Them Go

The simple act of catching yourself mid-worry is a huge victory and a step towards conquering worry for good.

For many of us, worrying has become so familiar that it has turned into a habit.  We can get very attached to our worry, and fear the unknown aspects of a worry-free life.

“…you can always go back to worrying.  I promise, no one will take it away from you.”

“What will I think about?” “How will I prepare?” “Isn’t not worrying irresponsible?” “It’s how I show that I care.”

Challenge yourself!

Give releasing worry a try, and explore where this path takes you.  If you don’t like living worry-free, you can always go back to worrying.  I promise, no one will take it away from you.
